Course Reserves

Course reserves

K-State instructors can put physical materials and textbooks on course reserves at several of our library locations. Students can then easily access those materials for free from the library help desk for a shortened loan period.

Instructors can request that items from the Libraries collection be added to reserves or they can provide the library with a personal copy of an item. Personal materials can be returned to the instructor once we receive a request to have them removed from course reserves.

E-reserves
The e-reserves service allows instructors to place materials such as articles, book chapters, lecture notes, public domain materials, etc., on e-reserves. Students may access these materials by logging into their K-State account and searching their course code on the K-State Libraries webpage. They may also use the e-reserves Libguide as a reference point.

Accessing e-reserves and finding course materials
E-reserves can be accessed 24 hours a day. Access to these materials is limited to students in the specified class. E-reserves can be accessed through the Search It tool.

Requesting streaming videos
In addition to videos you may find in Search It, you can request films through K-State Libraries, including popular and documentary films. We will contact you once we have obtained the viewing rights and instructions on how to view the movie.

Borrowing course reserves

A K-State ID is required to check out materials from course reserves, and only two reserves items may be checked out at a time. Course reserves items cannot be renewed.

Returning course reserves

Course reserves items must be returned to the same library help desk from which they were borrowed. They should not be returned to book drops. Course reserves materials returned to book drops are not counted as returned until the following day, causing a patron to accrue fines.

Fines
In order to ensure the greatest number of students have access to items, due dates and times are strictly enforced. When the library is closed, fines will continue to accumulate until the library re-opens.

Fines for overdue course reserves items:

  • $2 per hour overdue for two-hour and four-hour loans.
  • $5 per day for all other loans.
