Summary

Techniques to increase fruits size of clementine are mentioned, which include fruit thinning and use of plant growth regulators. The developmental stages of clementine fruits are described. Factors affecting fruit size, including genetic factors, variety, fruit number, competition among developing organs (flowers and fruits), external factors (climatic, edaphic (soil) and cultural practices such as pruning, fertilization, irrigation) and application of growth regulators are discussed. Results are presented of trials conducted in Metaponto, Italy, to investigate the efficacy of some plant growth regulators (triclopyr+MCPA and gibberellic acid (ester)) in increasing size and improving colour and quality of clementine fruits.
