Historical Note:

Gerry Posler was born 24 July 1942 near Cainsville, Missouri, and lived on his family's farm helping with corn, soybeans, oats, hay, beef, and swine enterprises. He was active in 4-H, Future Farmers of America (FFA), and athletics. He completed his undergraduate degree at University of Missouri in 1964, and then was a Research Assistant in the Department of Agronomy there until 1966. He was a Research Associate in the Department of Agronomy at Iowa State University from 1966 to 1969, after which he was on the faculty of the Department of Agriculture at Western Illinois University until 1974. He received tenure in 1973 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1974.

That same year, he began employment in the Department of Agronomy at Kansas State University. He was interim head and head of the department from 1989 to 1998, after which he was promoted to the academic rank of Professor. He retired in 2008.
