Basic Library Help

This page will give you information on how to get basic help using the resources in Hale Library. If you have any questions about this, or any other Library matter, your best bet is to go to the General Reference Desk (on the 2nd floor) and ask. The people at that desk are very willing to help, and are there to help you. The general rule is: if you haven't found what you need in 15 minutes, ask someone for help.

Ask Laurel Littrell for help. Please do not hesitate to do this. Chad is the interim Music Librarian, and he likes helping you. He was a music student at KSU, and understands you frustrations. Let him help you. There is no substitute for face-to-face instruction. Chad also works at the General Reference Desk , so he can help you with your basic library questions as well as your music-specific questions.

Ask at the General Reference Desk . Three words: general, reference, desk . This the single best place to get started using the library. The people who work at the desk are friendly folks, and are at the desk just to help you find what you need. If they can't help you, they can direct you to someone who can. Where is the General Reference Desk ? It is on the second floor – but the best way to find it is just to ask anyone who works at Hale. They'll get you where you need to be.

Take the Basic Library Class. Hale offers a myriad of classes at lots of different times. It is a one-time deal, that you do not have to sign up for in advance (just show up bit early), and it is free. It takes about an hour. A schedule of class times is here, but you can also just ask anyone at the General Reference Desk to show you.

You must have your student ID to check out items from the Library. There are no ifs, ands, or buts. You cannot check out anything without your student ID. Sorry.

Some other cool things you should know about the library are:

If you cannot find what you need in 15 minutes or less, you should go ask for help. The first time you come to the library, do not hesitate to come ask for assistance. It will save you hours of your life.

You can get access to most of our online databases from off campus!! Do you realize what this means? It means you can get a good start on your research before you have to come into the building. It means that you can do research involving the library even when the library is closed.

To print at the library: K-Staters with eIDs are allowed $10.00 each semester, plus $5.00 in the summer, for free laser printing in University Computing Labs. Printing can either be single-sided or double-sided (duplex). The cost of printing is 10 cents for the first side and 8 cents for the second side. If you exceed this amount, you may add additional funds (with paper money, not coins) to your Wildcat Card at the smart chip recharge station (Cash to Chip) machines located in K-State Libraries' Anita Lehner 24-hour Study Center and Copy Center, and at other campus locations. Money on the chip can also be used in most campus vending machines. Also, copy machines are coin operated.
