RefWorks is a web-based bibliography manager which allows an individual to create a personal bibliographic database. A user can build a database by importing references or citations from a text file, from a library database, or by manually typing in the information. These references may then be exported to a manuscript, term paper, technical report, thesis, dissertation, or any other document. With the click of a button, RefWorks will format a paper with references in a variety of citation formats.

The system is available to K-Staters. You must create your account from a computer on campus or by using a computer that uses K-State as its Internet Service Provider (ISP).

To get started:

  1. Go to to RefWorks and click on User Login link at the top of the page to register your name and password. You will receive an e-mail with welcome information along with a group code. Save this e-mail. The group code will enable you to access Refworks from offsite or a non-registered IP address.

  2. When in RefWorks, click on the Tutorial link for detailed instructions. Begin creating your list of references.

See University of Winnipeg's RefWorks guide. Some resources and tools mentioned will be unique to the University of Winnipeg.
