How To Order Library Materials
Before ordering books or other library materials, please contact
your
subject librarian.
Subject librarians can help you complete the Order
Request Form, direct you to appropriate resources for ordering
information, suggest other titles in the same subject area, and
provide instruction on available resources. You may also contact:
Diana Farmer, Sciences Collection Management Coordinator (532-7037;
email:
)
Tim Watts, Social Sciences/Humanities Collection Management
Coordinator (532-7221; e-mail:
).
Orders may be submitted in many ways--using the electronic order
form is not required. Other acceptable methods are: contacting
the subject librarians via e-mail; submitting clearly
marked commercial catalogs, photocopies of catalogs or other bibliographic
sources; writing letters or memos. The submitted request will not
be returned to you.
Whatever means of submission you choose, clearly include as much
as possible of the following information.
- Your name, department and contact information (required)
- ISBN number for books or ISSN number for serials
- Title of item requested
- Author, editor, compiler, performer, etc.
- Edition information, if any
- Publisher, place and date of publication
- Number of volumes (or volume number if requesting only one
volume of a set)
- Series information, if any
- Cost (or estimated cost if exact figure not available)
Other important information may include: order and/or catalog rush
or priority, hold for requestor, reserve for a class, or other special
instructions.
- RUSH/PRIORITY
- Orders usually are received in 3-6 weeks. However, some requests
may take much longer to fulfill (especially materials published
prior to the current calendar year, out of print titles, or
esoteric items). Additional time is required to catalog items
once they are received. If you need the item very quickly for
a current class or research project, mark the order request
RUSH or PRIORITY. This service should be used very sparingly.
Your subject librarian can provide details.
- HOLD FOR REQUESTOR
- If you wish the item to be held for you at either the Hale
or branch libraries' circulation desk, fill in the Hold for
Requestor blank on the request form or include that information
on your request. You will be notified when it is ready for checkout.
- RESERVE
- If you wish to order an item for reserve, contact the Reserve
Unit. They will forward the order to the Collection Management
Department after completing preliminary reserves processing.
