Basic Library Class / Tour

The class will require approximately 1 hour. The goal of the class is to provide students with experience using the library catalog and a database.
Students will also learn how to locate a book or journal article on the shelf in the library. The class will cover:
- A tour of Hale Library, including important services and help desks
- Basic information about using the InfoCommons
- How to find a book or other resource in the library catalog
- How to find a book on the shelf in the library
- What a call number is and what it means
- How to find the full text of an article in a database and email it to yourself
- How to read a citation and why citing sources is important
The class begins at the
Reception Desk with a tour. Due to the fast paced class, those arriving late
will not be admitted and must re-enroll. Enrollment in the requested class is not assured until you
receive a confirmation e-mail from Library Instruction. Registrations on Saturdays and Sundays may not be reviewed until Monday morning.
