K-State Libraries
Guidelines

The Brice G. Hobrock Libraries Distinguished Faculty Award was established in April 2004 by the Friends of the K-State Libraries to honor Dean Hobrock, who retired in June 2004. The maximum amount of the award is $1000.

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding librarianship and superior accomplishments among the K-State Libraries' faculty. For the purposes of this award, the libraries comprising K-State Libraries are: Hale Library; Fiedler Engineering Library; Weigel Library of Architecture, Planning, and Design; Math/Physics Library; and the Veterinary Medical Library.

The Award

  • The Hobrock Libraries Faculty Award is presented annually.
  • The award consists of the addition of the recipient’s name to the Hobrock Award plaque in Hale Library and a monetary award.
  • The award is presented at the Friends of the K-State Libraries' Spring Meeting.

Eligibility

  • The Hobrock Libraries Faculty Award is available to tenured and pre-tenured faculty holding a minimum 0.5 appointment in the K-State Libraries (listed above), at the rank of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor.
  • Nominees must have held a minimum 2-year continuous appointment in the Libraries.
  • The award evaluates a nominee's professional activities within the last two years.
  • Award recipients are not eligible for the award more than once every five years.
  • The Libraries' Dean and Associate Dean of the Libraries are not eligible to receive the award.

Support Materials

Nominees for the Hobrock Libraries Faculty Award must provide the following for consideration by the selection committee:
  • Current curriculum vita, abbreviated to include only the current academic year and the two most recently completed academic years.

The Selection Committee

The selection committee is composed of five members, who are appointed by the Chair of the Libraries Faculty at the first meeting of the Fall semester every year:

  • Three Libraries faculty (one of whom must be the most recent recipient)
  • One Libraries classified member
  • Chair of the University Library Committee

The Libraries Dean and Associate Dean of the Libraries are not eligible to serve on the selection committee.

Process

  • The Chair of the Libraries Faculty will appoint the Selection Committee to serve one term at the first meeting of the Fall semester every year.
  • Before January 14th of the following year, the Selection Committee will solicit self-nominations from the Libraries' faculty, nominations from the Libraries' staff, and post an announcement to the University community about nominations from outside of the Libraries.
  • No person may nominate more than one person for an award.
  • Nominations must not exceed 500 words and should summarize the nominee's qualifications for the award.
  • Nominations are due to the Selection Committee chair before February 14th.
  • Nominees must submit an abbreviated curriculum vita to the Selection Committee by March 1st.
  • By April 1st, the Selection Committee will choose one recipient for the award and forward the recipient's name to the Chair of the Libraries Faculty, to the President of the Friends of K-State Libraries, and to the Dean of the Libraries.
