Your Donations Hard at Work

The Friends lend financial support to a wide variety of Libraries’ projects. Here are updates on just a few.

  • Great Room projects: The Libraries’ Graphic Design unit has created a beautiful and eye-catching set of signs to help direct people to the Great Room. The logo, seen here, will be used on signs at the Hale Library entrance gates, in the elevators, and on 3rd floor both inside and outside the Great Room. Also in the works are signs explaining the storied history of the Great Room and the Overmyer murals. Funds have also been allocated for continued restoration of the murals.
  • Oral History Project: Funds were allocated to support the oral history of former K-State President Duane Acker for the University Archives. The oral history was transcribed by Ralph and Mary Ellen Titus.
  • Hale Library Concert Series: The Friends continue to underwrite the Hale Library Concert Series which is in its third highly-rated season.
  • Military History Collection: Gala 2009 proceeds will help support the K-State Libraries’ collecting focus in military history. Friends Board member and professor of history, Dr. David Stone, will provide guidance in selecting items to add to this collection.
  • Staff Recognition Awards: Nominations have poured in for the 2010 Brice G. Hobrock Distinguished Faculty Award! We’re sure to see the award continue to recognize truly high caliber achievement when it is presented at the Spring meeting. The Friends also provide a monetary gift to the Libraries’ Classified Employee of the Year, and the 2009 award recently went to Robin Brown. Robin works in Building Services, and makes sure that everything behind-the-scenes runs smoothly. She and her students are often involved in setup for Friends events, so you’ve seen her good work first hand.

Initiatives that the Friends of the K-State Libraries has raised funds for over the past 20 years.
