21st Annual Library Gala

The Friends of the K-State Libraries invites you to the 21st Annual Gala, “A World of Friends.” This event will give you the opportunity to support two Friends groups at K-State- the Libraries and the International Programs. Proceeds generated by the Gala will further the mural restoration in the historic 1927 Farrell Library Great Room and will provide scholarships to students who wish to study abroad or to international students who study at K-State.

The Gala will be held as usual in the third floor Great Room on Friday, August 29 beginning at 6:30p.m. This year’s international theme will feature South American and Asian food, international dance troupes, a Latin jazz combo and the opportunity (optional!) for guests to wear international attire.

Great Room and Mural Restoration Update

"Restoration of the Great Room Murals," a presentation given by Mary Schafer, professional conservator, on May 29 was extremely well-attended and gave individuals the opportunity to see restoration in action. Through the generosity of the Caroline Peine Foundation and our Friends organization, two of the historic Farrell Library murals were restored this summer. Additional funds are being sought to restore the two remaining murals and many aspects of the Great Room. This multi-year project will involve window repair, chandelier replacement, new flooring, and more. If you would like to assist with this project to restore the Great Room to its original glory, please contact Clarence Bauman, our foundation representative, at 532-7512.

Dean Lori Goetsch Elected President of ACRL

Lori Goetsch, Dean of Libraries, was elected president of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). ACRL is the largest division of the American Library Association (ALA) and is dedicated to supporting academic library professionals as they strive to meet the needs of the higher education community and to improve learning, teaching, and research.
