Holdings Records: Truncating Current Issues in the Cataloging Module

Weekly and Bi-Weekly Patterns

Staff receiving periodicals in the cataloging module should truncate current issues when individual receipt lines are extensive. Daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly patterns may fall into this category.

General Guidelines | Daily | Weekly/Bi-Weekly | Monthly | Quarterly

WEEKLY and BI-WEEKLY PATTERNS

Weeklies and bi-weeklies may be truncated by the quarter or in six-month increments. In Example 1, current issues were listed from July 1996 and continuing through Oct. 1998.

Example 1

Current issue receipts for bi-weekly from July through April.

Several issues are missing from the run. Because of the number of the gaps, the receiver may want to use multiple lines to make the OPAC display more readable. Depending on the length of the display, it may be desirable to leave the current year, i.e., 1998 issues on single lines. After truncating, this record would appear as:

Current biweekly issues truncated.
