Classifying CMC Study/Teaching Guides for Children's Stories

This procedure will be applied to study/teaching guides which cover individual juvenile literature titles (for example, a study guide for Charlotte's Web). Most of the study/teaching guides for individual children’s stories are part of a series. Generally, the stories themselves are in the Juvenile Literature collection and the study/teaching guides are in the CMC collection. Because of this, all the study/teaching guides for a particular series will be kept together in the CMC collection, under a pseudo-analytic call number for the series.

LB1575 will be used as the classification number. Cutter for the series and adjust for title of literary work.

All titles in the Novel ties series are classified under LB1575.N68, with the cutter number adjusted for the individual title, so that they are in shelf list order by title.

The basic call number: LB1575.N68, and is adjusted to LB1575.N6833

All titles in the Nurturing intelligences core literature series are classified under the number LB1575.N88. Because all titles in this series start with "Teaching guide for ..", the cutter number is adjusted for the title of the book being profiled.

This is an example of study guide with NO series, but it has same publisher and each title begins with "A literature unit for .."

Use LB1575.L53 as the call number, cutter for the title and adjust for title of the literary work.
