Holdings Subfield k


Purpose: To define terms used in the subfield |k of the 852 field of the holdings record.


Media Types
Subfield k term Definition
AUDIO TAPE Typically a sound cassette (permanently encased tape with both supply and take-up reels); also used for unenclosed reel-to-reel tape
CD-ROM Type of optical disc (produced/read with laser technology): compact disc read-only memory. Typical size is 4 3/4 in.
COMPACT DISC Type of optical disc (produced/read with laser technology) on which sound may be recorded; typically 4 3/4 in.
COMPUTER DISK Magnetic disk (rigid or flexible, typical size = 3 1/2 or 5 1/4 in.)
DVD 4 3/4 inch video disc used to store videorecordings
DVD-ROM Equivalent to the CD-ROM (but with greater storage capacity), a read-only disc containing computer programs, data or both
EQUIPMENT Media playback equipment
FILM Motion pictures and film loop cartridges/cassettes
MAP
MEDIA Various media such as filmstrips, slide sets, kits, etc., for which a more specific media type hasn't been designated
MICROCARD Type of microopaque (3" x 5")
MICROFICHE
MICROFILM
MICROPRINT Type of microopaque (6" x 9")
PHONODISC Typically an analog sound disc made of plastic, grooved; generally 33 1/3 or 78 rpm
VIDEO TAPE Permanently encased videotape that winds from reel to reel
