Binding
Periodical Title Changes
This procedure includes Periodical Titles that have changed, ceased,
been cancelled, discontinued or suspended.
Title changes will be removed from the reading area and bound
right away.
- The Serials specialist will send printouts of the bibliographic
records, for the old and new titles, to the reading area. These
printouts will indicate the appropriate ending and beginning volume
number/dates.
- Reading area staff will remove the issues from shelf and send
the issues to the binding area with the printout.
- The shelf label for the old title will be removed from the reading
area . Reading room staff will create a shelf label for the new
title.
Ceased titles will be removed from reading areas and bound
right away.
- The Serials specialist will send a printout of the bibliographic
record to the reading area, when the end date is recorded in the
record.
- Reading area staff will remove the issues (and shelf label) from
shelf and send the issues to the binding area with the printout.
Cancelled titles will be bound when the last issue is received.
- The Serials specialist will put a cancelled note in either the
serials check-in note box or the holdings record giving last expected
issue and instructions "Give to Serials Specialist after check-in."
- When the Serials specialist receives the last issue, a flyer will
be inserted in the piece to alert the reading room staff to remove
all issues (and shelf label) from the reading room and send the
issues to the binding area.
Suspended or Discontinued titles will be removed from reading
area shelves when notification is received.
- The Serials specialist will put a message in a holdings public
note field that the title has been suspended or discontinued.
- The Serials specialist will send the reading area a printout of
the bibliographic record when the title is closed.
- The reading area will remove the issues (and shelf label) from
shelf and send the issues to the binding area with the printout.
- If the title becomes active again, the serials specialist
will open the holdings record again and contact the reading area.
