Objectivist Poets
In Special Collections

5 Statements for Poetry by Zukofsky In the early 1980s, Special Collection began to build a collection of the major Objectivist Poets. The poets identified for inclusion were Basil Bunting, Lorine Niedecker, George Oppen, Carl Rakosi, Charles Reznikoff, and Louis Zukofsky.

Special Collections was fortunate to be able to purchase a major Zukofsky manuscript collection in 1984. The collection primarily consists of 100 letters of Zukofsky and Renee Taupin exchanged from 1929 to 1940, and several other important Zukofsky items. In 1985, Special Collections acquired Le Style Apollinaire (1934), one of the most sought-after early Zukofsky contributions. Zukofsky's 5 Statements for Poetry (1958), of which only two other copies are in American libraries, was purchased in 2000.
