The following serves as an overview of history of science related archival records and manuscript collections in the department to give the reader an indication of the breadth and depth of the holdings and to lead researchers to sources relevant to their scholarly interests. The descriptions consist of name, date span of contents, concise information about the contents, and size (lf. refers to linear feet of shelf space; -1 indicates that the collection is less than 1 linear foot in size). More comprehensive finding aids exist in the department for many of the collections. Finding aids and additional information about services and materials in the department are also available at http://www.lib.ksu.edu/depts/spec/archives.html Books and periodicals in the University Archives, as well as dissertations, masters theses, and masters reports by K- State graduate students, are not included here; however, they can be readily identified by searching the online catalog of the K-State Libraries.
The history of science collections are divided into four major categories as they relate to K-State academic and research programs; 1) MacDonald Laboratory, Atomic Physics, and History of Physics, 2) Agriculture, Ecology and Environmental Sciences, 3) Natural History and Geology, and 4) Military/Industrial Complex--Science and Technology in the Cold War. A fifth group, "General," is included for those collections that do not fit into the other fields.
