Introduction
Andrew Erhart, a 1933 graduate of K-State, was appointed Superintendent of the Garden City Branch Experiment Station in 1948. This collection consists of the original typescripts he prepared for a daily radio program (except for Sunday). The typescripts contain his hand written annotations, and some include printed material related to the subject of his talk.
An index for each year lists the dates of the broadcasts under broad categories: Livestock, Extension, Horticulture & Lawns, Irrigations, Misc. Crops, Sorghum, Wheat, Weather, Soils & Fertilizer, Weeds, and General. The specific topic for each daily report is also identified with the topics ranging from fertilizers to gophers to patriotism. During the latter years, Erhart devoted the Saturday broadcasts to what he called Sunday school lessons. Although each broadcast was less than five minutes in duration, the size of the collection and the range of topics provide a wealth of information about agricultural and scientific practices, as well as his views on how to live a better life. Larry Kipley, the donor, acquired the collection at an auction in 2004 at which time the collection was incomplete.
