Ross Wesley May was born on 24 Jun 1898 in Kansas, the son of Robert and Hattie May. He was the sixth of eleven children. His siblings included: Edgar, Charlotte, Robert, Charles, Elizabeth, Clara, Josephine, Percy, Frances, and Ralph. He graduated from Holton High School in 1916.
On 14 Sep 1920, he entered K-State, initially studying mechanical engineering, before changing to follow the general science course of study in 1922. He was excused from military science on account of one year in the service. He took the spring semester of 1923 off, but returned for the summer session of 1923. He last attended during the spring semester of 1924.
He lived at the Phi Beta Sigma Chapter House, 1020 Colorado, during his entire time at K-State.
According the Phi Beta Sigma history, Our Cause Speeds On, Ross Wesley May served as President of Delta chapter. He was a Corporal with Company B, 351st Field Artillery in World War I. May graduated from St. Paul College of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1930, before practicing law in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Ohio.
He died on 24 Aug 1943 in Columbus, Ohio.
