Dowdal Henry Carroll was born on 01 Sep 1906 in Kansas, the youngest son of Matthew and Bertha Carroll. Raised in Kansas City, KS, his siblings included Octavia, Matthew Jr., Cecil (female), Lillian and Dorothy. He graduated from Sumner High School in 1925.

On 13 Sep 1926, he entered K-State, following the general science course of study. He withdrew from school in Jan of 1927.

He lived in the Phi Beta Sigma Chapter House, 1020 Colorado, while attending K-State. The 1930 census shows him and his public school teacher sister, Cecil, living with their widowed father. Dowdal Carroll was working at a waiter in a hotel.

On 18 Apr 1930, he married Theola Brockman in Kansas City, MO. He served in the Navy in World War II. He worked as a steward for the Burlington Northern Railroad until he retired in 1971.

Dowdal H. Carroll died on 16 Nov 1993 in Kansas City, KS, and was buried in Westlawn Cemetery.
