Vision, Mission & Goals Statement
VISION
The Kansas State University Library Information and Support for Technology (LIST) Unit is a faculty/staff centered service meeting the diverse technology needs of the KSU Library system through a dynamic set of easily accessible support services. The goal is to help KSU Library's faculty and staff make the best use of technology in the support of Kansas State University and to provide leadership in technical support.
MISSION
LIST serves as the primary point of contact for K-State Libraries faculty and staff seeking problem resolution with supported software, hardware and operating systems. Non-training related technical support is provided for “out of the box” functionality of core desktop applications and hardware directly related to library approved workflow. LIST staff members liaison with KSU computing staff and provide support for computer systems used by the faculty and staff of K-State Libraries, as outlined in the Goals and Functions below.
LIST will:
- Find ways to increase self-sufficiency of faculty and staff.
- Resolve problems, not just provide quick fixes.
- Be proactive, not reactive, prevent problems from happening.
- Be courteous and professional
- Communicate with staff frequently through appropriate channels
- Resolve issues in a timely manner
- Our top priority is to minimize faculty and staff “down time.”
- Abide by University and Library IT Policies and the University IT Code of Ethics
- Maintain and increase technical knowledge and stay abreast of new technologies.
GOALS and FUNCTIONS
- Provide a central point of contact for Library faculty/staff questions and problems and to provide services such as acquisition, repair, functional training, peripheral support, and consulting.
- Assess/analyze faculty and staff workflows and requests to determine technology needs.
- Prepare information technology budget requirements for KSUL management.
- Analyze requests for new hardware or software, prepare specifications, plan implementation, and purchase, install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot technology solutions.
- Provide “functional” (out of the box) training to faculty and staff to meet immediate needs and provide guidance in acquiring more advanced training.
- Maintain software library and licensing for K-State Libraries.
- Contribute to the KSU campus community, IT community, and participate in groups, listserv discussions, etc. to maintain an awareness of current technology trends, options and abilities.
- Maintain security on library faculty and staff computer systems.
- Work toward establishing a basic level of technology literacy within the library organization.
- Initiate, plan, test, and monitor special technology based “projects.”
- Contact vendors as needed in order to obtain specifications, set up demonstrations and resolve issues.
- Recommend IT Policies and Procedures to LLC
