K-State Libraries
United States Congressional Committee Hearings

The K-State Libraries’ collection of U.S. House and Senate committee hearings is split among several different formats:

  • 1834-1979:  full text, searchable – included in LexisNexis Congressional* database.
  • 1869-1960:  microfiche, filed in “House and Senate Hearings” cabinet.  This content is duplicated in LexisNexis Congressional* database.
  • 1970-present:   abstracts, full text of testimony when available, included in LexisNexis Congressional* database.
  • 1961-1981:  paper, housed in the annex storage facility.  These print hearings can all be accessed via the library’s catalog.    From the catalog, users may click the Place a Request button to have the item retrieved.
  • 1982-present:   microfiche.  These later hearings are classified under SuDoc number Y 4: [committee].   Hearings between 1982 and 1996 are not cataloged.  Since mid-1996, hearings have been consistently cataloged and can be accessed via the library’s catalog.

* LexisNexis Congressional database is restricted to K-State faculty/students/staff and Hale Library walk-in users only.
