Fair Use Workshop -This workshop will review the most flexible yet ambiguous exception to U.S. copyright law: fair use. The presenter will review the four factors of fair use and how they can be applied, explore the fair use evaluator tool, and provide scenarios for participants to practice their newfound evaluation skills.

Creative Commons Licensing Workshop - This workshop will cover two important aspects of Creative Commons Licensing (CCL): how to find works with CCLs and how to apply CCLs to your own works. Scenarios will be provided to allow participants to practice using the tools.

Copyright, Coffee, and CADS - Graduate students, researchers, and junior faculty members are invited for coffee and tea as we get to know about participants’ current academic projects and how these projects might present challenges for them in terms of copyright and publishing.

We will discuss the complex publishing world, copyright contracts, author rights, and publisher copyright policies, and how to use digital tools to navigate this process and potentially retain author rights when submitting and publishing scholarly works. Other topics include legally and appropriately reusing content in theses and dissertations, scholarly publications and instructional activities.

Analyzing Any U.S. Copyright Problem - Hesitant to use others’ content in your own work? This interactive workshop will help participants feel more comfortable about fairly and legally using others' creative content, whether it's incorporated in social media, websites, blogs, academic papers or other situations.

Open/Alternative Textbook Information Session 1 -If you’ve ever considered applying for funds from the Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative, plan on attending one of these two informational sessions. CADS faculty will review the application requirements and selection criteria.

They will also outline the resulting cost savings for students and the adaptability of open/alt classroom materials, two of the major benefits reported by previous award winners.

Share Your Work - Crash Course on K-State Research Exchange (K-REx) - Posting your work online is a great way to increase exposure and may help boost citations. If you’re a faculty or staff member who might not know about open access or K-REx, if you’ve been submitting to K-REx for years but want a refresher, if you’re a graduate student advisor who would like to learn more about the system your students submit their theses and dissertations to, or if you just have an interest in sharing your research and creative work online through repositories and academic social networks such Academia.edu and ResearchGate, then this information session is for you.

Google Analytics  - In this workshop, learn about key metrics that can be gathered using Google Analytics, including where to monitor real time data, how to compare data segments and how to create and save a unique report. For those not currently using Google Analytics on their site, we’ll show you how to add it.

The Journal Impact Factor, Eigenfactor and the H-Index -In this hands-on session, we’ll cover finding and using journal and author-level metrics for journals and for participants’ publications, too. Learn how metrics are created, how they are used (and when they shouldn’t be) and how they can affect the success and visibility of a journal.

Altmetrics -Increasingly, altmetrics are used in conjunction with traditional citation-based metrics to track how researchers, the public and the media engage with scholarly research online. Learn how altmetrics capture data and explore the benefits of tracking the online activities of scholarly journals and individual researchers. We’ll even show participants how to determine who’s saying what about research articles and how to identify and contextualize the volume and nature of the online attention.
