1899      Elected acting President of KSAC

1900      June, elected official President of KSAC by vote, 5-1

1902      June, Regent Coburn began public criticism of Nichols' Agriculture policy

1902      Re-elected President by informal vote

1902      Elected President of State Agricultural College of Rhode Island, turned down the position

1908      March 21, resigned from presidency, effective June

19091909      June, upon leaving office, honorary degree of Ph. d. was conferred and the naming of Nichols Gymnasium was  announced

1910      Managed Thurston Teachers Agency and participated in business ventures in          Chicago

1929      Suffered paralyzing stroke

1938      October 3, Marguerite Rae died

1938      November 26, Ernest R. Nichols died.
